In my MEP engineering journey, two essential tools have consistently played a vital role: AutoCAD and Excel. These may seem basic, but their impact on my workflow, accuracy, and project execution has been immense.
AutoCAD
Precise Drafting: AutoCAD has been my go to for 2D layouts of HVAC and plumbing. It ensures accuracy in pipe routing, duct design, and equipment placement.
EXCEL
- Bill of Quantities (BoQ) & Cost Estimation: Excel helps in tracking materials, pricing, and budgeting, making financial planning more efficient.
- Data Analysis & Load Calculations: HVAC load calculations. Excel simplifies complex numerical tasks with formulas and pivot tables.
- Project Documentation & Reporting: Keeping structured equipment schedules, maintenance logs, and work progress reports is easier with Excel’s organized layout.
- These two tools have been instrumental in shaping my MEP workflow, from design conceptualization to project execution. While I explore more advanced tools like Revit MEP and HAP. AutoCAD and Excel remain the foundation of my engineering toolkit.
