## Free vs Pro

MEP Tools has two plans: **Free** and **Pro**. There is no third tier.

Prices are shown on [/pricing](/pricing) in USD, with monthly or annual billing, and the full feature grid is on [/compare-plans](/compare-plans). Pricing is not repeated here because it is pulled live from Stripe.

## Public beta

While MEP Tools is in public beta, a dismissible notice at the top of the app describes the current state of paid plans. Before paid plans opened, every tool was open to everyone; once they opened, the notice describes the beta refund promise — see [Refunds & cancellation](/docs/refunds#public-beta).

## The 7-day free trial

A 7-day free trial is available on the paid plan you select. A payment card is required up front, and you get one trial per person and per email address.

Starting a trial requires a verified email address — verify from the banner or your account page first if you haven't already.

## Managing your subscription

Everything below is on [/billing](/billing):

- **Plan and usage** — your current plan and your projects usage (the same numbers as the **Usage** card on your [dashboard](/dashboard)). Unlimited quotas are not listed.
- **Cancel** — stop your subscription from renewing.
- **Resume** — bring back a cancelled subscription before it lapses.
- **Update payment method** — opens the Stripe-hosted billing portal.
- **Payment history** — real invoices, each linking to a hosted invoice page.

If your plan was granted by an administrator, the self-service actions above are replaced with a message to contact support — there's nothing to cancel or update yourself.

## Cancelling

Cancelling takes effect at the **end of your current billing period**. You keep access to your Pro features until then, and there is no refund for the remaining time — see [Refunds & cancellation](/docs/refunds) for the full policy. If you change your mind before the period ends, resume the subscription from /billing.

## Failed payments

If a renewal payment fails, a banner appears telling you to update your payment method to keep your subscription. Access continues during a short grace period (3 days by default). If payment still hasn't succeeded by the end of the grace period, the account is downgraded to Free.

## What happens when you drop to Free

If you're over the Free plan's 3-project limit when your account downgrades — whether by cancellation or a failed payment — the most recently updated projects stay unlocked and the rest become locked. A locked project can still be opened, viewed, exported and deleted, but not saved, autosaved or renamed. See [Projects](/docs/projects) for details on locked projects.
