Projects & saving — MEP Tools

How the project library works — saving and opening projects, renaming, deleting, plan limits and locked projects, and the size limit per project.

Saved projects vs. work on this device

A project is a document saved to your account. It is listed on /projects, on your dashboard, and it follows you to any device you sign in on.

Work that has not been saved to your account exists only in the browser you are using. That side of the story — the save-status chip, autosave, unsaved work, and how guest work reaches your account — is covered in Save status & unsaved work. This page is about projects once they are in your account.

Your project library

/projects shows everything in your account:

The projects page at the Free plan's 3-project limit: quota count, tool filter chips, search, and the saved projects list

If you are signed out, the page only offers Sign in. If your email is not verified yet, the page shows the Activate cloud saving notice instead of the quota count.

Saving

You need a signed-in account with a verified email to save. Until you verify, work stays on the device — see Account & security.

Inside a tool, the File menu has:

Opening a project puts its id in the address bar (/tools/<tool>/<projectId>), so you can bookmark it. Opening a project that was deleted, or that you do not have access to, shows Project not found.

Project limits

PlanProjects
Free3
Pro15

These are stock limits — they never reset over time — and your usage is shown on the projects page, the dashboard, and /billing.

At the limit, saving a new project is refused with Project limit reached. Delete a project to save this one. Delete one you no longer need, or upgrade.

Locked projects

If you end up over your limit — typically after a downgrade from Pro to Free — the server picks your most recently updated projects at that moment, keeps those unlocked, and locks the rest. That choice is made once and doesn't re-shuffle afterwards: editing a project later won't move it into the unlocked set.

A locked project shows a Locked badge in the list. It:

The projects page and the dashboard both show a banner while you are over the limit. To get unstuck, delete projects until you are within the limit, or upgrade — see Plans & payments.

Size limit

One project can hold about 1 MB of data. A save that would exceed it is refused: the chip reads Project too large, nothing in your account is overwritten, and the work stays on the device. Remove some content (in Plant Room Studio, for example, a large imported DXF) and save again. Autosave pauses until the project fits.

Deleting projects vs. deleting your account

Deleting a project from /projects removes just that project. Cancelling your subscription does not delete any projects. Deleting your account does — permanently, along with the rest of your account data. See Account & security and Refunds for how cancellation and deletion work.

Exporting your work

Exports run from within the tool, whether or not the document is saved. See Exporting & watermarks for the formats available and how the watermark works.
