# Branches & take-offs

Source: https://meptools.com/tools/ceiling-coordination-studio/docs/branches/

## Take-off and termination

Every branch has a **Take-off side** — **Left side**, **Right side**, **Top**, or
**Bottom** of the parent run — and a **Termination**: **Left wall**, **Right wall**, **Up to
slab**, or **Down to ceiling**. A branch ending at the slab or the ceiling needs an
**End position** (its `terminationX`) — a wall termination doesn't.

## Runs and bends

A branch can have up to **3** horizontal runs, with exactly one bend between each pair of
runs. Use **Add run** / **Remove last run** in the branch inspector's **Runs & bends**
section. Each run has a **Height**; each bend has a **Position** and an **Angle**. Valid
bend angles are **30°, 45°, 60°, and 90°** — a square 90° offset takes the least length,
shallower angles need more.

## When an edit doesn't fit

The panel won't let you type a value that leaves no room for the branch to be drawn. Instead
you'll see one of:

- _"Set to `<value>` mm — `<reason>`."_ — your edit was clamped to the nearest value that
  still fits.
- _"That change leaves no room — `<reason>`."_ — the edit was refused outright.
- _"No room for another run — `<reason>`."_ — **Add run** is blocked.
- _"The bends did not fit the new route, so the branch was rebuilt as a single run."_

The `<reason>` names what's limiting the branch: clearance from the left/right wall, the
slab, the false ceiling, the parent service's edge, a neighbouring bend, the branch's own
run-count limit, or the termination position.

## Repairing an issue from its card

Some branch violations offer a one-click fix on their issue card in the **Validation**
panel: **Align to centreline**, **Clear the main**, **Pull inside the void**, and **Set the
end position** are all repairable this way. See
[Compliance checks](/tools/ceiling-coordination-studio/docs/compliance-rules) for what each
rule checks and why.

## Selecting related branches

Right-click a service and choose **Select all branches of this main** to select every branch
on it at once — useful before a bulk move or delete. See
[The workspace](/tools/ceiling-coordination-studio/docs/interface).
