# Doors, columns & room edits

Beyond the room outline itself, the **Room** verb hosts the parts that shape the space equipment
sits in: doors, columns, and edits to the outline.

## Doors

- Choose **Place door**, then click a wall to drop the door on it (_"Click a wall to place the
  door. [Esc] to cancel."_).
- Select a door to edit its **width** and position in the inspector. A door must be wide enough
for the equipment that has to pass through it.

## Columns

Columns are structural obstructions inside the room. Equipment footprints and clearance zones are
validated against columns just like walls.

- Choose **Draw columns** and click to add the column's corners; click the first corner or press
**Enter** to close, **Esc** to cancel.

## Editing the room outline

The room is an editable polygon, not a fixed rectangle:

- **Drag** a vertex to move a corner, or drag an edge to move a wall.
- **Insert** a vertex to add a corner, or **delete** a vertex to remove one.
- Corners must stay at **90° or wider**, and walls **can't cross** (self-intersect). The tool
blocks edits that would break either rule and tells you why.

## Attaching equipment to walls

Use **Attach to wall** to snap a selected item flush against a wall with the correct face and
clearance, so it stays aligned as you adjust the layout. Detaching returns it to free placement.

Once the shell is set, add [equipment](/tools/plant-room-studio/docs/equipment).
