# Projects — save, open, autosave

Source: https://meptools.com/tools/plant-room-studio/docs/projects/

A **project** is one plant-room layout. Project management lives in the workspace **File** menu.

## Creating and naming

- **New** starts a blank project.
- The project **name** shows in the breadcrumb and in the **Project settings** panel. Use **Rename** to
change it. The name is a property of the project, not of the room — it travels with exports as
  the drawing title.

## Saving

- **Save** (`Ctrl/Cmd + S`) stores the current project.
- **Save as / Duplicate** makes a copy under a new name.
- **Load project** lists your saved projects to reopen; the full library is at [/projects](/projects).
- **Autosave** can be toggled **On** or **Off** — when on, your work is saved as you go.

> **Sign in to save & manage projects.** Cloud save and **Load project** require an account with
> a verified email. Signed out, the File menu offers only **New** and **Sign in to save**; your work
> stays on this device until you sign in — see [Save status](/docs/save-status).

### Save status

A chip in the workspace header shows the current save state — **Cloud saved**, **Saving to
cloud…**, **Edits pending**, **Not saved**, or **On this device** — and explains what to do about
it. See [Save status](/docs/save-status) for what each one means.

If a saved project's layout can't be read back, a dismissible banner says so and opens an empty
document instead of failing silently.

## Moving a layout between machines

There is no project-file download. To carry a layout elsewhere, save it to your account and open
it from any signed-in device, or export **IFC** and re-import it (with the losses listed under
[Exporting](/tools/plant-room-studio/docs/exporting#importing)).

## On mobile

On a phone or narrow window Plant Room Studio is a **read-only viewer**: you can open and inspect
saved projects but not edit or save them. Build and save on a desktop-width screen.
